With a Scale-out File Server in an Availability set, RDS gets the best option for hosting the User Profile Disks. This load is fully supported in Azure combined with a S2D cluster.
Storage Spaces Direct uses industry-standard servers with local-attached drives to create highly available, highly scalable software-defined storage at a fraction of the cost of traditional Storage Area Network (SAN) or Network Attached Storage (NAS) arrays. Due to converged or hyper-converged architecture it dramatically simplifies procurement and deployment. If we combine all the new features of RDS and Windows Server 2016, we get the best solution for virtualized hosted desktops: a connected desktop from any place, any time and any device with the power of Azure. Because all workloads in Azure are payed per use, it is easy to scale down in the time you don’t need (some of) the workloads.
